How do you improve upon a tyre already considered to be among the best road bike tyres of all time? You give it a transparent sidewall, that's how! Continental's GP5000 is already a fantastic all-round performance tyre, the addition of a transparent sidewall will mean your bike is turning head like never before.

The predecessor to this tyre, the GP4000S II, was at the time considered to be one of the best ever produced. For the GP5000, the German tyre makers have demonstrated their commitment to continuous innovation, and produced a tyre that is lighter, faster grippier and more puncture resistant than previous attempts.

The Spicy Compound

The sidewall of the transparent version of this tyre might look different on the outside, but it's still packing the same rubber-compound technology on the inside. Much like its plainer cousin, Continental have used their legendary Black Chili rubber compound in the making of this tyre. By manipulating the compound used, Conti have been able to create a product that is 10 grams lighter previous models in a 25 mm width, offers a 12% reduction in rolling resistance, and is 20% more puncture resistant.

Around the shoulder of the tyre, the brand has used their proprietary Laser Grip Technology to create a micro tread pattern. This pattern increases the GP5000's all-weather grip, giving you extra confidence when speeding into corners.

Wide, Smooth, Fast

In recent years, manufacturers of tyres and wheels have been making wider products. It's becoming the norm for tyre and wheel makers to push the width of the optimal size of a tyre. Continental are of the view that a wider tyre is a more comfortable, which in turn is a faster tyre. To that end, the transparent version of the GP5000 is available in sizes up to 32 mm in width. Combined with Active Comfort Technology and you have a tyre that'll glide over even the roughest road surfaces.

In addition to this extra comfort and speed, these tyres also offer better protection against punctures. A lightweight, tear-resistant Vectran fibre has been used to line the GP5000.
